Valérie Demers is a doctoral candidate in Urban Studies at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique–Centre Urbanisation Culture Société (Québec). Her research focuses on citizen initiatives to appropriate public space and their potential for developing the citizens’ power to act. She is passionate about citizen participation, participatory urban planning, collaborative processes, and the urban environment. She has an interest in knowledge mobilization and applied research with a view to sustainability.
For over four years, she has put her expertise to good use for the Centre d’Étude en Responsabilité Sociale et Écocitoyenneté.
